1. Acceptance of These Terms

By purchasing a course, package or service from ECDL Digital, you confirm that you have been given the opportunity to read and agree to these Terms & Conditions together with our:

Any additional terms clearly displayed for the particular product or offer you purchase

Where required, you will be asked to actively accept the applicable terms during checkout.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not complete your purchase.

Nothing within these Terms limits or excludes statutory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

2. Our Courses and Services

ECDL Digital provides online digital-skills training and associated services.

Depending upon the package purchased, this may include:

Online course access

Digital learning materials

Interactive exercises

Mock examinations

Assessments

Practical learning environments

Examination preparation

Examination vouchers

Licence or activation codes

Certification-related services

Learner support

Other resources specifically advertised as being included

The exact contents of each package are determined by the product description applicable when you purchase.

Customers should check the package description carefully before completing an order.

3. Orders and Formation of Contract

Submitting an order constitutes an offer to purchase the selected ECDL Digital product or service.

A contract will normally be formed once we accept your order and issue confirmation.

We may refuse or cancel an order before supply where there is a legitimate reason, including:

Payment failure

Suspected fraud

An obvious pricing or listing error

Duplicate or unauthorised transactions

Inability to supply the selected product

Where ECDL Digital cancels an order before the relevant product has been supplied, payments will be dealt with in accordance with applicable law.

4. Prices and Payment

The price payable is normally the price displayed and agreed when your order is placed.

ECDL Digital may offer products using:

Standard pricing

Sale pricing

Promotional pricing

Clearance pricing

Bundle pricing

Advanced Bundle pricing

Limited-time offers

Special negotiated offers

Instalment or payment arrangements where available

Prices may increase or decrease at any time for future purchases.

A subsequent sale, promotion or price reduction does not normally create an entitlement for an existing customer to receive the difference.

5. Sale, Promotional, Clearance and Bundle Purchases

ECDL Digital may offer courses and packages at specially reduced prices.

These may include products advertised as:

Sale • Promotion • Clearance • Bundle • Advanced Bundle • Limited-Time Offer • Special Offer

Reduced-price purchases may be subject to different voluntary refund and transfer arrangements from products purchased at their standard price.

Once digital content has been supplied following the appropriate consent and acknowledgement, sale, promotional, clearance and bundle purchases are non-refundable for change-of-mind requests, subject always to statutory rights.

Being sold at a reduced price does not remove any consumer rights that apply by law.

6. Digital Content and Immediate Access

ECDL Digital courses primarily consist of digital content.

Where you ask us to begin supplying digital content during an applicable 14-day cancellation period, we may require your:

express consent for supply to begin immediately; and

acknowledgement that once supply begins, you will lose the applicable statutory right to cancel the digital-content contract.

Where the required consent and acknowledgement have been obtained and supply has begun, the applicable change-of-mind cancellation right may therefore end.

This does not affect statutory remedies where digital content is faulty, materially misdescribed or otherwise does not comply with applicable consumer law.

UK government guidance confirms these requirements for immediate supply of digital content during the cancellation period.

7. Course Access Periods

ECDL Digital does not provide lifetime course access unless a particular product expressly states otherwise in writing.

The access period applicable to your purchase will be shown in the relevant product description or order information.

Our standard access structure is:

Standard course packages – 1 year of course access

Advanced Bundle – 2 years of course access

The applicable access period normally begins when the course account or digital content is activated or made available to the learner, unless ECDL Digital expressly confirms a different commencement date.

Learners are responsible for completing their training within the applicable access period.

Failure to log in, study or complete the course during the access period does not automatically entitle the learner to a refund, replacement course or extension.

8. Expiry of Course Access

At the end of the applicable 1-year or 2-year access period, access to the course and associated digital learning materials may automatically expire.

Unused study time does not automatically roll over.

Where a learner requires additional time, ECDL Digital may offer an extension where available.

Extensions:

Are not guaranteed

Must be agreed by ECDL Digital

May incur an additional charge

May depend upon continued availability of the relevant course or platform

The expiry of course access does not necessarily correspond with the expiry of an examination voucher or third-party licence.

9. Examination and Licence Expiry Dates

Examination vouchers, activation codes, licences and third-party products may have their own expiry dates.

These may expire before the learner’s 1-year or 2-year course-access period ends.

Where an expiry date has been communicated to the learner, it is the learner’s responsibility to use the relevant examination, voucher or licence within that period.

ECDL Digital cannot guarantee that an expired third-party voucher or licence can be replaced or extended.

10. Learner Accounts

Learner accounts are intended for the individual learner to whom they are assigned unless the relevant package expressly permits additional users.

Learners must:

Provide accurate information

Keep login details secure

Take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorised access

Inform ECDL Digital if account security has been compromised

Use the account only for authorised purposes

You must not sell, rent, publicly distribute or share your account with another person without ECDL Digital’s permission.

11. Study Buddy and Additional Learner Accounts

Some ECDL Digital packages or promotions may include a Study Buddy or second learning account.

Where expressly included, the second learner will be entitled to their own authorised account in accordance with the conditions of the offer.

Study Buddy access does not mean that a single account may be shared between multiple people.

Each authorised learner should use their own account.

Additional accounts cannot be resold, repeatedly reassigned or commercially distributed without our permission.

12. Transfers to Another Student

We understand that circumstances may change.

ECDL Digital may, at its discretion, allow eligible remaining course access to be transferred to another learner as an alternative to providing a voluntary monetary refund.

Transfers are not automatic.

A transfer must be approved by ECDL Digital before another learner accesses the course.

We may refuse a transfer where:

A substantial proportion of the course has already been completed

An examination has already been taken

A voucher has been redeemed

A licence has been permanently assigned

Personalised services have already been delivered

The relevant third-party supplier prohibits reassignment

The account has been suspended because of serious misuse

An approved transfer does not restart the access period.

For example, if a 1-year course has six months remaining when transferred, the replacement learner would normally receive the remaining six months rather than a new 12-month period.

ECDL Digital may charge reasonable third-party or administrative costs genuinely incurred in completing a transfer where appropriate and lawful.

13. Examinations

Where examinations are included, learners remain responsible for adequately preparing for their assessment.

ECDL Digital does not guarantee:

An examination pass

A particular score

Certification without satisfying the awarding/testing body’s requirements

Employment following certification

Examination providers may impose their own identification, booking, cancellation, rescheduling and examination-security requirements.

Learners must comply with those requirements.

14. Examination Resits

An additional examination attempt is not automatically included unless the purchased package expressly states that a resit is included.

Where a learner fails an examination and requires another attempt, an additional examination fee may therefore apply.

Any applicable cost will be communicated before another examination is ordered.

15. Examination Vouchers and Licence Codes

Vouchers, licences and activation codes may represent products purchased from third-party suppliers specifically for a learner.

Once such an item has been:

Ordered

Issued

Activated

Redeemed

Permanently allocated

it may not be possible for ECDL Digital to cancel or recover its cost.

This will be taken into account when determining any voluntary refund or transfer request, subject to applicable statutory rights.

16. Course Content

We aim to ensure that ECDL Digital course content is accurate and relevant.

However, software, qualification requirements, examination objectives and technologies change over time.

We may therefore reasonably update:

Lessons

Exercises

Screenshots

Videos

Assessments

Mock examinations

Learning platforms

Course structure

to maintain or improve the course.

We will not use this provision to make a material change that unfairly deprives a consumer of what they contracted to receive.

17. Third-Party Learning Platforms

Certain ECDL Digital services may use third-party systems for learning, examinations, practical laboratories, payment processing or certification.

Occasional maintenance, outages or technical problems may therefore occur outside ECDL Digital’s direct control.

Where an included third-party learning product is permanently discontinued, we may provide a reasonably equivalent alternative where appropriate.

18. Intellectual Property

Course materials, website content, videos, graphics, assessments, documents and other protected materials provided through ECDL Digital are owned by, licensed to or otherwise lawfully provided for use by ECDL Digital.

Purchasing a course gives the learner a limited right to use the relevant materials for their authorised personal learning.

Unless expressly permitted, learners must not:

Reproduce course materials for redistribution

Upload course materials publicly

Resell learning content

Share protected course resources

Sell account access

Distribute examination materials

Copy databases or substantial collections of content

Remove copyright notices

Commercially exploit our learning materials

Unauthorised distribution may result in appropriate account action and, where necessary, legal enforcement.

19. Acceptable Use

You must not use ECDL Digital systems or services to:

Access another learner’s account without permission

Circumvent security measures

Interfere with our website or learning systems

Introduce malware

Scrape protected content without permission

Commit fraud

Impersonate another learner

Facilitate examination cheating

Distribute protected examination content

Harass other users or staff

Use our services unlawfully

20. Fraud and Account Misuse

ECDL Digital may investigate suspected fraud or serious misuse.

Examples include:

Fraudulent payment information

Unauthorised account sharing

Reselling learner accounts

Unauthorised reproduction of course content

Examination fraud

Misuse of vouchers

Deliberately false payment-dispute claims

Attempts to gain unauthorised access

We may retain and use appropriate account, transaction and activity records when investigating suspected misuse, subject to our Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection law.

21. Account Suspension

We may temporarily restrict an account where reasonably necessary to investigate:

Suspected fraud

Security concerns

Unauthorised account access

Serious breaches of these Terms

Payment reversals or disputes

Examination misconduct

Significant platform abuse

Where appropriate, access will be restored after the underlying issue has been resolved.

Permanent termination will only be used where justified by the circumstances and permitted by applicable law.

22. Refunds and Cancellations

Refunds and cancellations are governed by our separate Refund, Cancellation & Transfer Policy.

Where immediate digital supply has begun following the required consent and acknowledgement, change-of-mind cancellation rights relating to that digital content may no longer apply.

Sale, promotional, clearance and bundle purchases may have different voluntary refund arrangements.

Nothing within these Terms removes statutory rights that cannot legally be excluded.

23. Faulty or Misdescribed Digital Content

Consumers have statutory protections concerning paid digital content.

If digital content does not meet applicable requirements concerning matters such as satisfactory quality, fitness for purpose or conformity with description, statutory remedies may be available.

These rights are not removed by these Terms or by purchasing during a sale.

24. Payment Disputes and Chargebacks

Where a chargeback or payment dispute occurs, ECDL Digital may provide relevant evidence to the bank, card issuer, payment processor or dispute-resolution provider.

Digital-content consent

Account activation

Login records

Course activity and progress

Voucher or licence allocation

Communications with the learner

Refund or cancellation correspondence

Nothing in this section prevents customers from exercising legitimate legal rights concerning disputed transactions.

25. Reversed Payments

Where payment for a course is legitimately reversed or refunded in full and the learner consequently has no continuing contractual entitlement to the paid service, associated course access may be withdrawn.

A learner should not knowingly continue accessing paid digital services after the corresponding payment has been fully reversed where they are no longer entitled to that service.

26. Course Results and Career Outcomes

ECDL Digital provides training and learning resources.

We cannot guarantee that completing a course will result in:

Passing an external examination

Obtaining employment

Receiving a promotion

Receiving a particular salary

Admission to further education

Acceptance of a qualification by a particular employer

Learners should check any specific employer, university or professional requirements before purchasing where recognition for a particular purpose is essential.

27. Service Availability

We aim to provide reliable access to our services but cannot guarantee that every system will operate without interruption.

Temporary disruption may occur because of:

Maintenance

Updates

Internet outages

Third-party failures

Security incidents

Circumstances outside our reasonable control

Where a significant problem occurs, we will take reasonable steps to restore the affected service.

28. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.

In particular, we do not seek to exclude liability for:

Death or personal injury caused by negligence

Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation

Statutory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded

Other liability that applicable law does not permit us to exclude

Subject to those protections, ECDL Digital will not generally be responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was entered into or which result from circumstances outside our reasonable control.

Consumer contract terms must be fair and transparent, and businesses cannot simply use contractual wording to remove consumers’ statutory protections.

29. Business and Organisational Purchases

Where a company, school, employer or other organisation purchases learner accounts, it is responsible for providing accurate learner information and ensuring authorised users comply with relevant account requirements.

Consumer rights may not apply in the same way where a purchase is made wholly or mainly for business purposes.

Separate commercial terms may apply to larger organisational purchases where expressly agreed.

30. Communications

By purchasing from ECDL Digital, you agree that we may send communications reasonably necessary to administer your:

Course

Learner account

Examination

Voucher

Payment

Support request

Service communications are separate from promotional marketing.

Marketing communications will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law.

31. Privacy and Cookies

Personal information will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Our use of cookies and similar website technologies is explained separately in our Cookies Policy.

32. Official Examinations

Official examinations are not included. On completion, learners receive an ECDL Digital Certificate of Completion. This is not an official qualification and is not issued, endorsed by or affiliated with the ICDL Foundation or BCS. Learners who want the official qualification will need to take the exams through an official BCS-approved exam centre.

33. Complaints

34. Changes to These Terms

ECDL Digital may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time for future transactions.

The version applicable to an existing purchase will normally be the version forming part of the agreement when the purchase was made, unless a subsequent change is required by law or expressly agreed.

We will not use this provision to retrospectively impose an unfair material change upon an existing consumer contract.

35. Severability

If a provision of these Terms is determined to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, this will not necessarily affect the validity or enforceability of the remaining provisions.

36. No Waiver

If ECDL Digital does not immediately enforce a contractual right following a breach, this does not necessarily mean that we have permanently waived that right.

37. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Consumers elsewhere in the United Kingdom may also benefit from mandatory rights concerning applicable law and jurisdiction which cannot lawfully be excluded.

38. Entire Agreement

These Terms should be read together with:
